Probate/Estate Administration
When a person dies their estate ie what they own be it bank accounts, a house, shares etc, needs to be administered (collected in) and we have an experienced team here to help. Our Solicitors are full members of The Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners which is a group of the most experienced in this area and have to reach certain standards to become members.
We are happy to deal with all matters relating to estate administration including registering the death with any banks, pension funds, share registrars etc, arranging clearance of properties, instructing estate agents, obtaining probate or letters of administration including dealing with the inheritance tax position on the estate, income and capital gains tax issues, winding up the estate and distributing or transferring all assets. We also advise on contentious issues for instance if the will or intestacy rules ie, where there is no will, do not provide sufficiently for you or if you feel that the deceased was not capable of making a will at the time that the last will was made or perhaps that they were coerced into making the will.
Our Property Department are happy to assist with house sales and we liase between the departments to help you. Once a house sale has completed we will then contact utility companies and the house insurance company and ensure all liabilities have been settled and any refunds are received before arranging final distributions on the estate.
We understand that this is a difficult time and ensure that all matters are dealt with in an efficient and sympathetic way and that you are kept fully informed of progress. We receive many referrals due to our excellent level of service and expert team providing advice on all matters including:
